The U.S. entering World War I in 1917 led to a significant expansion of the military aviation branch, which was crucial for various operations during the war. As the conflict escalated, the need for more aircraft and trained pilots became urgent, prompting the government to invest heavily in military aviation. This included the establishment of training programs and the formation of dedicated aviation units to support the war effort.

The rapid increase in military needs required a more robust organizational structure for aviation, leading to the expansion of existing branches and the creation of new ones. This established a foundation for future developments in military aviation in subsequent conflicts, including World War II and beyond.
